Upcoming Events

  • Bake Sale: this has been rescheduled to Thursday March 26 instead of March 19. Don’t forget to bring in your baked goods that day! Also, we need five sellers. Anyone interested, please go see Mrs. Sturm in D-25 to sign up.
  • Senior Citizen Dinner: We need EVERYONE’S help!! This is one of the biggest service projects of the year. It will be held on Thursday April 2 from 2:20PM to 6:30PM. We serve approximately 110 senior citizens an Italian dinner before they see the show. We will need donations such as food (pasta, sauce, cupcakes, etc.) as well as paper goods. Please go see Mrs. Sturm to sign up to bring something. We need specific items, such as specific types of pasta, so you MUST talk to her before you go buy stuff.
  • Model Kiwanis for the exec board: Please meet in front of the school no later than 7AM on Thursday March 19.

Convention video idea: make an advertisement video to  “sell” Key Club as a product; Andrea had a good quote, which I forgot… If any of you have more ideas, please share them!

Reminders

  • March 11: Intervale Babysitting. The more people who go, the better!
  • Any senior interested in apply for the NJ Key Club scholarships must submit their applications by this Saturday.
  • Anyone who is going to convention but has not picked up forms (the ones that have to be notarized) must see Mrs. Sturm ASAP
  • Tomorrow night (Friday, February 27) is Montville’s annual volleyball tournament. Even if you’re not on a team, you can go just to spectate and hang out. They usually have snacks and such there. It’s $5 for spectators and all money raised goes to Children’s Specialized Hospital.
  • The historians should be starting to work on the scrapbook soon. If anyone has pictures from any Key Club event from last year’s convention until now, please send them to one of the officers so we can put them in!
  • Lastly, I’m going to start working on the video for convention very soon. Anyone who has ideas to contribute, please share!

Montville Volleyball Tournament

Montville’s annual volleyball tournament is coming up soon. Here‘s the information about the event and sign up forms.

February Updates

Sorry about not updating for a while.

Just some quick reminders first:

  • GENERAL MEETING TOMORROW!
  • PLEASE BRING IN CANDY FOR VALENTINE’S DAY STAFF GIFTS!
  • We’ll be packing the candy after the general meeting tomorrow.

As you guys know, many of us visited Children’s Specialized Hospital on Friday. We basically just toured the hospital. It wasn’t as much as I had hoped, but it was a good experience and it really makes me even more motivated to raise money for them. I’m really hoping that these visits will become an annual thing to give ever member the opportunity to see where our money is going. I also want to point out that the staff there seemed to have been some of the nicest people I’ve seen. The lady who helped me organize this visit and gave us the tour, Beth Anne Myarick, wanted me to give out her contact information for anyone who wants to volunteer at the hospital on their free time. Her email address is: bmyarick@childrens-specialized.org. She’ll give you more information on what kinds of volunteer opportunities are available. Mrs. Sturm wanted me to put it out there that if anyone does volunteer at the hospital, we can give you Key Club credit/hours for this. Finally, I just want to thank everyone who came and of course Beth Anne, who made this possible.

Convention registration and information should be coming out soon, so keep an ear out for announcements on that. I know that the money has to be in by Friday, so they’ll be out sometime this week.

———

Lastly, I have a mostly updated list of hours. If anyone’s curious about that, just drop me an email and I’ll let you know.

2009-2010 Key Club Executive Board

The results are out and posted from Tuesday’s election.
But first, I want to thank everyone who ran for an exec. board position for putting in the effort and showing their dedication to the club. And also remind everyone that even if you’re not on the exec. board, you can contribute greatly to Key Club and its service projects.

Here’s your 2009-2010 Executive Board
President: Sophia Kim
Vice President: Jeesung Park
Recording Secretary: Udbhav Desai
Corresponding Secretary: Bonnie Chan
Treasurer: Kim Ho

Congratulations to them, and good luck next year!

We will also be selecting candidates to be next year’s editor, historians, and webmaster. If you’re interested, please let us know (you can just drop us an email) and we’ll let you know what the selection process for these positions will be this year.

Also, I want to remind everyone that the Children’s Specialized Hospital trip will be next Friday February 6th. WE NEED EVERYONE TO MAKE VALENTINES FOR THE CHILDREN WE’LL BE VISITING. Just a nice card with a message from Parsippany Hills Key Club. Give these to Mrs. Sturm and we’ll give you hours for doing them.

———

We also need candy for the school staff for Valentine’s Day. We’ll be packaging them after our general meeting on February 10th. You will get credit for both bringing candy in, as well as packaging!

———

There will be a meeting regarding convention in the coming week. The date is still to be determined, but I’ll keep you updated.

———-

Intervale babysitting is on Wednesday, February 4th.

Club Elections

The next meeting is our club elections! We need everyone to be ready to go by 2:25 at the latest, so please get to D-25 by around 2:20. There’s a good group of people running, so good luck to each of them.
———
We also need people to start bringing in candy. We had relatively anemic turnouts the past two years, so we need to change that this year. Mrs. Sturm has said that we need approximately 1500 pieces of candy. So please start bringing stuff in.
———
Our CSH visit is on February 6th. I am hoping to bring get well and Valentine’s Day cards for the kids at the hospital. Each of them should have messages such as “Happy Valentine’s Day from Parsippany Hills Key Club” or “Get well soon from Parsippany Hills Key Club.” If you can make it creative, go for it! We need as many cards as we can get; the more the better. You will get hours for making them. We have not decided yet on how many hours for how many cards, but I will let you know.
Also regarding the visit, right now I have 14 out of 15 spots signed up for. Anyone who is still interested should let me know ASAP.
I am going to hold a short meeting after school some time next week just to keep everyone up to date about everything. I’ll let you know when and where this meeting will take place.

Intervale babysitting is on February 4th.
———
We will have a separate meeting some time next week regarding convention. Anyone who wishes to go must attend. I will let you know when and where this meeting will be held.

Next Meeting

The next general meeting is going to be one of the most important of the year.

We will be:

  • doing a vote between Julie and Jee as our nominee for LTG. This is incredibly important as the LTG is in charge of the whole Key Club district and we want to make sure we send the most qualified candidate.
  • handing out election material for the upcoming club exec. board election on January 27th. Anyone interested in running MUST attend this meeting.
  • unveiling a new service project / fundraising event idea. We need everyone’s input and participation. We will make a list of people who are interested in putting a lot of effort to making this event successful.

As you can see, it’s a very important meeting, so make sure you go this Tuesday!

Children’s Specialized Hospital Visit

What: We are finally going to visit CSH (our service project over the past three years). It would be nice to see where all of our fundraising has gone to. yay.
When: Friday February 6th 1PM (It’s a half day so we’ll probably be leaving right after school)
Where: Children’s Specialized Hospital Mountainside
Who: I told the lady that we’ll have approximately 15 people go. I have a list from a few meetings ago of people who were interested. We’ll talk about this at our next meeting and I’ll do a final sign up sheet.

End of the Year Updates

Our holiday party has been moved to this Thursday, December 18th due to today’s cancellation.
Please bring in food. We barely had anything today, and it was disappointing.
Freshmen and Sophomores, bring snacks (chips, cookies, other finger foods)
Juniors and Seniors, bring drinks
We look forward to seeing you guys there!

Also, the second candle order arrived today. Please go to D-25 to pick them up ASAP.

HOLIDAY PARTY and other notes

Our holiday party will be during our next general meeting, which will be December 16th.
As always, we will be splitting up who should bring what by grade.
Freshmen and Sophomores – Food
Juniors and Seniors – Drinks

AGAIN, WE NEED IDEAS FOR A SERVICE PROJECT. PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS AND SHARE WHATEVER YOU COME UP WITH AT THE NEXT MEETING OR WITH SOMEONE ON THE EXEC BOARD.

Jackie, Mrs. Sturm, Doc and I had a meeting last week to discuss hours for the candle sale as well as some convention issues.
-The hours for the candle sale are as follows:
*People who sold less than 4 candles will receive 3 hours.
*People who sold 4 candles will receive 6 hours.
*People who sold more than 4 candles will receive the basic 6 hours plus half an hour for each extra candle.
-Convention
*People who sold four or more candles will get priority. These people will also get the full $50 of funding.
*If at this point, there are still spots available for the trip, people who sold candles, but less than four, while having a certain amount of hours (to be determined) will be considered. These people will get $25 of funding.
*If there are still spots remaining, anyone who wishes to attend with enough hours will be considered. These people will not receive funding.
